Malice Mizer 의 곡들 중 하나인 Gardenia 입니다. 구성원들이 2 명씩이나 빠지면서 그간 부진을 이어갔던 그룹이 어느 정도 활기를 되찾았음을 알리는 듯, 이전까지 어두운 곡들을 내놓았던 것과는 상반되는 밝은 분위기의 곡이지요. PV 에서 선보인 의상도 Le Ciel 을 연상케하는 새하얀 옷차림이 특징.

- Gardenia 는 새하얀 꽃을 피우는 것이 특징으로 PV 의 새하얀 옷차림은 꽃의 색에서 유래되었다고 볼 수 있지요. 그간의 어두운 분위기와 상반되는 밝은 분위기에는 더할 나위 없이 좋은 색을 내는 꽃이었을 것입니다.

 

그와 더불어 C/W 에서는 기괴한 분위기의 '붕괴 서곡' 이 수록되어 있으며, 이러한 분위기는 이후의 싱글 음악 'Beast of Blood', 'Baptism of Blood' 으로 이어지는 듯합니다. 그룹이 이전과는 비슷한 듯 다른 잔혹, 괴기스러운 분위기도 선보이려 했음을 알 수 있지요.

- 하지만 이 싱글 앨범이 발매되고 얼마 지나지 않은 2001 년 즈음에 Malice Mizer 는 마지막 싱글 앨범 'Garnet' 을 끝으로 휴식을 선언하며 활동을 정지합니다. 말이 휴식이지, 사실상 활동 종료에 가깝지요. 이후, 구성원이었던 Mana, Kozi, Yu~Ki 는 각자 다른 방면에서 활동을 이어갑니다만, 간혹 Mana 의 라이브에서 다시 모이는 모습을 보여주기는 합니다.

 

Gardenia 는 이름이 근사해 보이기는 합니다만, 사실 이것은 '치자' 의 다른 이름입니다. 단무지, 국수 등의 노란 색상을 내는 식용 색소로 널리 활용되고 있지요.
