Music from 'Notre Dame de Paris' - The 1st song for the 2nd Act.

 

노트르담 드 파리 제 2 막의 첫 곡입니다.

음유시인과 악역으로 등장하는 사제의 대화를 소재로 한 곡이지요.

 

피렌체(Firence) 에서 시작되는 르네상스와 대항해시대,

인쇄술 발달, 그리고 그로 인해 가속화되는 종교 개혁에 관한

대화가 이어지는 것이 가사의 내용.

 

가사의 내용은 대략적으로 말씀을 드리자면,

시대의 격변을 맞이하는 기득권층 그리고 구세대 사람들의

신세 한탄 그리고 심기 불편을 드러내고 있음이 그 주제 되겠습니다.

Parlez-moi de Florence et de la Renaissance.
Parlez-moi de Bramante et de l'Enfer de Dante.
 
À Florence on raconte que la terre serait ronde
Et qu'il y aurait un autre continent dans ce monde.

Des bateaux sont partis déjà sur l'océan
Pour y chercher la porte de la route des Indes.
Luther va réécrire le Nouveau Testament
Et nous sommes à l'aube d'un monde qui se scinde.

Un dénommé Gutenberg a changé la face du monde,
Sur les presses de Nuremberg on imprime à chaque seconde.
Des poèmes sur du papier des discours
Et des pamphlets de nouvelles idées qui vont tout balayer.

Les petites choses toujours viennent à bout des grandes
Et la littérature tuera l'architecture.
Les livres des écoles tueront les cathédrales,
La Bible tuera l'eglise et l'homme tuera Dieu.
Ceci tuera cela......

 

Translation :

내게 말해다오, 피렌체와 르네상스,
그리고 브라만토와 단테의 지옥에 대하여.

피렌체에서는 말하지, 지구는 둥글다고,
그리고 세상에는 또 다른 대륙이 있다고.

배들은 이미 바다로 떠나지,
인도를 향하는 뱃길을 찾아.
루터는 성서를 다시 쓰려 하고,
우리는 불화의 세상, 그 여명기에 있지.

구텐베르크라는 자는 세상을 변화시켰지,
뉘른베르크에서 매초마다 찍히는 종이들,
논설지 위에 쓰여져 있는 시들과
모든 것을 휩쓸 새로운 생각의 책자들로.

작은 것이 늘 큰 것을 압도하지.
문학은 건축을 멸하겠지.
학교의 책들은 성당을 멸하고,
셩서는 교회는, 인간은 신을 멸하겠지.
그리 되겠지.......

Tell to me about Florence and the Renaissance.
Tell to me about Bramante and the Dante's Inferno.

At Florence, it is said that the earth would be round.

Luther is going to rewrite the New Testament

The little always surpass the big
And the literature will destroy the architecture.
The books of schools will destroy the cathedrals.
The Bible will destroy the church and the human will destroy God.

Por trovi la pordon de la vojo al Hindio.
Lutero reverkos la Novan Testamenton,
Kaj ni estas ĉe la tagiĝo de la dividita mondo.

Kio nomis Gutenbergon ŝangis la mondan vizaĝon,
Per la presejoj de Nurembergo presas ĉia sekundo,
Poemoj en papiro de paroloj kaj pamfletoj de novaj ideoj, ke balaos ĉion.

단테의 지옥 : 단테 알리기에리의 신곡으로, 지옥이라면 아마도 제 1 편인 '지옥편' 을 의미할지도. 지옥편은 당시의 지옥관에 대한 설명을 비롯, 단테의 불우한 신세와 관련된 이들 혹은 정적들에 대한 원망이 포함되어 있기도 한 부분이기도 하지요.

 

루터는 성서를...... : 종교개혁을 암시하는 발언입니다. 물론 루터가 성서를 다시 썼다는 그런 일화는 없지만, 그 시대의 프랑스라면 그렇게 알려졌을 수도 있습니다.

 

논설지 위의 시들 : 공식 한국 번역본에서도 이상하게 번역된 부분이기는 합니다만, 실제로도 번역하면서 쉽게 와닿지 않은 부분이에요. 그러다가 교과서에 학생들이 몰래 낙서하는 그런 경우가 있었음을 떠올리며, 과거에도 그러한 일들이 있었으며, 낙서로서 시를 쓰는 경우가 있었음을 상정해 그렇게 번역하였습니다.
